Introduction

Commonly used notes are listed below. Note that notes are NOT listed in numerical order; they are listed in order of importance. For guidance on importance see the document Order of Notes

Example of Individual Notes

504 – Bibliographic Reference Note - Both indicators are blank

(Note that "Includes index" is recorded as a 500 note, when there is no bibliography.)

500 – General Note - Both indicators are blank

(Note that the "Includes index" is appended to the 504 bibliographic note when applicable.)

505 – Contents Note

Contents Notes can be formatted as basic or enhanced; this quality is noted by Indicator 2. When adding contents use the basic format only. The examples listed below pertain to basic contents that are complete.

First Indicator: Contents can be categorized as complete, incomplete or partial. This attribute is noted in Indicator 1, which shows an appropriate display constant at the beginning of the field when seen in the user interface. Second Indicator Example
