DVD Processing

DVD Processing: Tattle tape, Labeling, etc.

End procession includes: Stamping, Tattle taping, Labeling, Appling gift plates (if necessary), Appling barcodes, and the recording of statistics.
  1. Stamping

    DVD's have no property stamp.
  2. Barcodes

    1. Barcodes are applied to the upper left "quadrant" of the DVD container.
    2. They are place 1/2" from the top and 1/2" from left edge unless important information intervenes.
  3. Labeling

    1. Spine Labels
      1. In most cases labels are placed on the spine of the DVD case.
      2. If the DVD case is too thin, consider replacing it with a thicker case.
      3. The bottom of the call number label is placed 2 inches above the bottom of case.

    2. Call Number on Disc:
      1. Hand print the call number on the disc's label: Do not write on the polycarbonate side that is read by the DVD player. Use a DVD marker.
      2. Find an area that has no writing: Take care to print the call number in a place that contains no other writing or graphics that might impede its readability.
      3. Double-sided discs: Print the call number on side A around the hub (hole in the center), where their is no digitally readable information.
  4. Tattle tape

    1. Do NOT tattle tape double-sided discs!
    2. Make sure the call number has been written on the disc prior to applying tattle tape.
    3. Use CD tattle tape to cover the label side of the disc. Make sure the metallic bars are place in a way that they do not impede the reading of the information on the disc label and the call number.
  5. Gift plates

    Gift plates are attached to the inside of the container. Trim the plate to fit, if necessary.
  6. Statistics

    After labeling, enter the count and date on the statistic sheet.
  7. Deliver DVDs to Access Services Desk

    Inform Access Services staff of any items that have notes to inform individuals.
