Presentation Guidelines

Here are some things to keep in mind for presentations:

• Basics

  • Name on opening slide
  • Avoid dead time

• Presentation

  • Cadence
  • Threads – make sure there is a thread to follow
  • Excitement
  • Let the concept the driving force
  • Where is the logic?
  • What is the value added?
  • Forest/trees problem

• Clarity

  • Concept
  • Logic
  • Diagrams
  • Proper level of abstraction

• Slides

  • 5-7 by 5-7 rule: 5-7 lines; 5-7 words
  • Diagrams
  • Minimize code/formulas
  • Color
  • Typeface
  • Citations (if appropriate)

General Grading Criteria

Here are some general criteria to consider:

• Spoke clearly and audibly

• Organization

• Presentation flowed

• Clear focus

• Concepts clear and clearly explained

• Concept rich versus content poor

• Good diagrams
