SUBJECT: 9th, 10th or 11th Grade Algebra course

TOPIC: Reducing radicals and fractions

INTERACTIVITY: The students will attempt to reduce radicals to lowest terms and solve a riddle. While reducing the radicals, the students will be able to acquire words that will ask them a riddle. The riddle answer will be posted in the lower right hand corner of the bulletin board for the students to check their work.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE: Rationalize the denominator and simplify each expression. Find your answer on the bulletin board and notice the word next to it. Write the word in the box on the worksheet containing the letter of the exercise. Then see if you can answer the riddle.

TIME: This activity should take about 15 minutes to complete.

SPECIAL CONSTRUCTION: I used just one flap on this board to conceal the final answer to the riddle.

CREDIT: This assignment will count as one homework assignment. Every student will be expected to complete the bulletin board task within the week it is put up.

OTHER COMMENTSs: With the worksheet in hand, the student will be able to create a riddle and attempt to solve the riddle. Only the answers to the work the student does on the worksheet are posted on the bulletin board. Not all the answers on the board will be used in the riddle.
