Authoring Interest and Short Comments

We are interested in your comments, opinions and suggestions about ChemPRIME. We are particularly interested in developing a large group of people who are interested in joining in the authoring of this project. This would obviously include text, graphics, movies, simulations, animations and anything else appropriate. While we will be unable to proceed rapidly without significant funding we would like to be able to begin rapidly when we succeed in developing NSF or other funding sources. We will develop both author recognition and monetary compensation. If you have an interest in joining in this effort, please use this guestbook for signing in, If your interests are well defined, include topics, exemplars, and the type of authoring in which you have an interest. See guestbook below for others interested.

The information in this web site can be obtained by a request to vitz@kutztown.edu.

More Extensive Comments

For more extensive comments and questions please use the Comment Submission Form or contact any of the Consortium members directly. We will return e-mail as soon as possible. For anyone without ready electronic access see the standard contact methods for any of the Consortium members.

To Join a Discussion

We will establish a mixed format to involve the extended chemistry community in discussions of the plans for ChemPRIME. Our current plans are for this to be an openly accessible conference with a listserv for more important topics. Thus, all information will be accessible but we can avoid the e-mail overload created by an active listserv. The listserv is activated and the conference format will be initiated if traffic becomes heavy.

I will have overall supervisory responsibility for a general chemistry course required for 800+ cadets at the United States Military Academy during the next academic year (95-96). We are very interested in making this course interesting and relevant to all including the majority who will not be continuing on in their study of chemistry past this two semester freshman course. I am very interested in learning more about this project. -- 03/28/95

I teach at a community college. Most of the students that take this class are interested in career field other than chemistry. I would like to develop a different format for approaching chemistry. In organic chemistry material seems to develop in a logical related fashion. What you learn today will be useful for the rest of the semester. In teaching general chemistry it almost seems as if there is a large series of ideas that are not directly connected. How can one teach general chemistry in a more connected fashion? -- 04/14/95

I am interested in learning more about your project. I teach Chemistry and Advanced Placement Chemistry at William Chrisman High School in Independence, Missouri. I am working on a Master's Project involving the use by high school students of databases available on the Internet. I am currently developing some short curriculum pieces that deal with individualizing chemistry instruction. It seems that your project seeks to deal with many of the same issues that I must deal with in my teaching and research. I would like to be involved with your project in any way that is appropriate. -- 04/24/95

This project looks very interesting. I have committed to using HTML in the classroom for the coming year in my General Chemistry Classes. This will not begin until January, as I have upper level assignments for the Fall Quarter. I am interested in working with Student Feedback using the HTTP-CGI (Common Gateway Interface) allowing for student interaction rather than simply reading hyper-linked text. This is somewhat problematic as the structure of the the interacting programs depends on the server being used to purvey the WWW files. Please count me in. -- 07/10/95

I'm interested in participating. I teach General Chemistry, primarily, at a community college. We have developed our own detail topical list and our own laboratory manual. We have used as guidance the test realeased by ACS and the requests and needs of local industries and potential transfer universities. We would be very interested in the details of what others throughout the nation have on their competency lists. Ours is detailed enough that there are 200 items - to give you some idea of what I mean by detail. Sincerely yours, Jim -- 03/16/96

Teaching at the secondary level (general/adv chem) I am delighted to see changes at the higher ed level, because so often we are driven to prep our students for traditional approach in college.
