To Add a Constraint

·    Click on the ‘Solver Parameters’ dialog’s  ‘Add’ button to launch the ‘Add Constraint’ dialog .

·    Click your pointer into the Cell Reference box. In the ‘Transportation Problem’, select the cells in the ‘Answer’ column for the first three constraint functions. (Any  constraints that have the same relational operator (‘<=’) they can be entered together. You could enter each constraint row individually, but on large problems this takes too long.)

Text Box:

·    Choose the appropriate relational operator from the center selection box.  For the first three constraints of the ‘Transportation Problem,’ choose ‘<=’.  Notice that the last three constraint answers will need to be ‘=’ to their constraint values.

·    Position your pointer in the ‘Constraint’ box, and select the corresponding cells in the ‘Constraint’ column.

·    Click ‘OK’ to create the constraint.

·    Repeat the process for the remaining constraints.

·    We also want to set our variables to be >= 0. We can enter this as another constraint. Or we can have solver enforce this limitation by setting the Solver Options.
