TITLE: All-Star Math
SUBJECT: 8th Grade General Math
TOPIC: Evaluating Percentages Based on Data
INTERACTIVITY: Students select player cards from the folders and place them up to bat by attaching the cards to the Velcro on the home plate provided.
They repeat this process until they have three players from each league recorded on their worksheet.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE: Select a batter from the American League lineup and attach his player card to home plate. Record his stats on the table below. Repeat this process until you have three American League and three National League players. After the initial table is completely filled in, complete the analysis charts below to find out which league had the best stats for the 2006 season.
TIME: Approximately 15 minutes
SPECIAL CONSTRUCTION: Border comprised of mini pennants from Major League Baseball teams.
CREDIT: Students have their lowest homework grade dropped upon completion.
OTHER COMMENTS: It is designed to provide an example of a real world use of mathematics.
