Information on Sending and Receiving Files for this Class,
as of Spring 2008
You can use the Digital Dropbox in BlackBoard to send me a file.
You can add a file to your drop box first, and then send it.
- If you click on the Add File button, then there are 2 steps - File Information, and Submit.
- In the File Information step, you browse to the file you want, and then add it.
- Make sure the filename includes your name, your section, and
which assignment it is. For example, if I were in section 070 and I
were sending Paper 2, I would name the file
"robert_ryan_070_paper2.doc".
- Please do not use the box for Name. And please do not use the box
for Comments unless absolutely necessary. If you have named the file as
specified above, you do not need to add any other information. I will
be able to tell what is being sent to me and by whom.
- In the Submit step, you click on the Submit button to ADD the
file. But adding a file does not send it anywhere. You must still
perform the Send File step.
To send a file that you have added:
- If you click on the Send File button, then there are 3 steps - Select User, File Information, and Submit.
- First, in the Select User step, select me if you want to send the file to me.
- Then, in the File Information step, you can either select from
the files you have added, or browse to upload a new file. As stated
above, please do not use the box for Name. And please do not use the box for
Comments unless absolutely necessary. If you have named the file as
specified above, you do not need to add any other information. I will
be able to tell what is being sent to me and by whom.
- In the Submit step, you click on the Submit button to SEND the
file. You should get a confirmation message saying that the file was
sent to the selected user.
You can also send a file by clicking on the Send File button without clicking on the Add File button first.
- If you click on the Send File button without clicking on the Add
Fill button first, then everything will be the same as above except
that you will have to browse to upload the file because you did not add
it previously.
If I have sent you a file, then you should see it in your Digital Dropbox the same as if you had added it.
You should clean out your Digital Dropbox if it becomes too full of
files. But be careful. If you remove a file you can not recover it. If
you think you may need the file at a later time, you should download it
and save it somewhere before you remove it.
