Some Project Ideas

Prof. Frye: Online faculty voting system; sensor networks

Dr. Spiegel: Genetic algorithms

Dr. Vasko: Operations Research; Ant Colony optimization

Dr. Rieksts: Cellular encryption; Dynamic factoradic encryption; Blocks World

Dr. Freihauf:

There are a couple computer programs that I think would be good to make, and I don't remember which one I told you about.

* The XRD peak finding program?  (takes and ascii file of x and y data points and determines the locations of peaks, then compares peak locations to a database of peak locations that act as fingerprints for minerals and other crystalline substances)

* The thermodynamic phase diagram computing program?  (user inputs chemical equations and some other basic parameters, then computer calculates stability fields based on chemical equilibria)
* Or the user-friendly version of the SUPCRT92 thermodynamic database calculator (that reads from a data file of chemical properties of minerals at low temperature, and then calculates the chemical properties at high temperature).  (this last one would actually be very, very useful to the geologic community)

There's another program that would be handy that I'd like help developing for doing calculations with geophysical data.

Oh!  And there's a web site project I'd like to do that would involve building a website that has a form for users to input data for a curriculum proposal into specific data fields (title, name, department, etc.), then assigns the proposal a unique sequential identification number, and records the data to a database which I could download to make the agendas for meetings, querrying by the dean, etc.
