BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH FOR MARC RENZEMA
Marc Renzema has been a Professor of Criminal Justice at Kutztown University since 1982. His primary teaching responsibilities deal with research methods, corrections, and substance abuse. Earlier experiences included teaching at Indiana State University, employment as a psychologist by the New York State Department of Mental Health and the New York State Department of Correctional Services. He also did Peace Corps service in the Republic of Ivory Coast.
In 1987 he founded “Offender Monitoring” newsletter which later became the Journal of Offender Monitoring. After selling the newsletter in 1989 he obtained a contract with the National Institute of Justice to do a nationwide survey of the applications of electronic monitoring. From 1998 to 1999 he served as editor of the Journal of Offender monitoring. He has written dozens of articles on electronic monitoring and the postrelease adjustment and he has presented at both academic and practitioner conferences in both the United States and Europe.
He is a former editor of The Executive Exchange, the publication of the National Association of Probation Executives, and has been on the editorial board of the Community Corrections Reporter since 1993.
Dr. Renzema has a bachelor’s from Johns Hopkins University and a master’s from Temple University, both in psychology. His doctorate in Criminal Justice was earned at The University at Albany.
In 2001 he accepted the task of doing a meta-analysis of the electronic monitoring literature for the Campbell Collaboration; publication is expected by early 2005. Details of the project are available at www.renzema.net .
He is married and resides in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Primary avocations are sailing, foreign travel, and watching dumb movies.
