Computations Involving i
If you have TI-84/83 series calculators, you are free to use i on your TI on exams & quizzes to check your answer. But, to earn any credit, you will be asked to write steps in algebra.
In each problem on exams & quizzes, directions will clearly tell you whether you can write the answer straight from the TI or you must show all hand-computations.

Say, we want to compute the product (1 – 2i)(3 + 5i) on the TI.
To enter i, press 2ND then i which is above the • (period) button.
Then, you will see this: |

Press ENTER. Then, you have the answer.  |

Enter the quotient (1 – 2i)/(3 + 5i).
You can verify the result of your hand-computations. |
