Creation of a Feed

You now start building a feed of your own. Let’s give a descriptive name.

Click on Next, and you will see this:

Type whatever you want in the Description and click on Next. Then, you will see the window below.
You will need to get serious with the Link because the linked file is what your students will drag into their iTunes. For this tutorial, let’s assume that you have created a blank directory called podcast at the root level of your directory tree on the web server. So, the directory structure now looks like this:

http://faculty.kutztown.edu/mitsuma/podcast

You are now going to create a Feed Link (.xml file) and name it workshop.xml.
Then, you will put the file in the podcast directory.

Be sure to remember the hierarchical location of this feed!

When you are sure of the link, click on Next. Then, you will see this:

At this point, I recommend that you click on Finish. Then, you will see this:

When you click on Yes, you will be greeted with this unhappy window:

Don’t worry about the validation issue for now.
This window has appeared only because you have not yet saved your feed onto your computer.

Keeping your cool, click on Yes. Then, from the Menu of FeedForAll, choose File > Save As:

At the same time, go ahead and close the Feed Parsing Errors window as well.

By default, the title of the feed you chose at the beginning will automatically appear as the name of the feed. As noted above when you named the link as

http://faculty.kutztown.edu/mitsuma/podcast/workshop.xml,

the hierarchical location of the feed (.xml file) within your website is extremely important.

Click on Save. If you want, turn to the Desktop of your computer and locate the feed for yourself.
You see, the suffix has been added automatically!

This concludes the creation of a feed.
