| What is a podcast and why should you care? Podcasts are internet-based radio shows that you can listen to whenever you like. Unlike radio shows over the airwave, you are in complete control because you can play, pause, rewind, fast-forward the show—kind of like Tivo, but for radio. Podcasts cover every imaginable topic on music, politics, religion, sports, etc. Many are high-quality recordings which sound great on an iPod or a computer with nice speakers. With an iPod, you can take the radio shows with you and listen to them whenever and wherever you like. Regardless of your interests, you are likely to find a podcast show about it. With iTunes, you can have your favorite podcasts downloaded automatically to your computer as new shows are added. While you are in bed, iTunes will update your iPod—when you get up, off you go with the fresh podcasts on your iPod. A podcast of your math class If you are a student in any of my math classes, you can listen to every class in its entirety through a podcast. You can listen to it as you review your notes. Or, if you miss a class, you can catch up by listening to the podcast. Your iTunes will automatically fetch new mathcasts as they are added by me. Click on this link to read a short tutorial on how to add podcasts to iTunes. If you are interested in making your own podcasts, one approach is this. |
