MAT 122 Calculus for Business and Information Science

This course focuses on the application of concepts and methods of calculus to problems that arise for students who major in Business or Computer Science. The topics include differential and integral calculus; applying derivatives, differentials, and integrals to problem-solving; and maximizing and minimizing functions. A graphing calculator is required for this course.
Calculus Concepts: An Informal Approach to the Mathematics of Change, 4th Edition, by Latorre, Kenelly, Fetta Reed, Harris, Carpenter. We will cover most of Chapters 1- 6.
HOMEWORK: Daily on-line homework assignments will be given. If you miss class, please check the course web page (address above) for that day’s assignment. These assignments will be worth 100 points.
EXAMS: There will be 3 exams during the semester. Each will be worth 100 points and will be announced at least one week in advance. “Make-up exams” are typically given during the last week of classes. There will be a cumulative final exam worth 150 points given on Monday May 5th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

TUTORING: If you are having trouble in this course, it is important that you seek help immediately. I would be more than happy to help you during office hours or during another scheduled time. I also encourage you to work together with other students in the class. There are tutors available in the Math Lab in Beekey 120 on a walk-in basis. The hours are posted on the door of the lab. There is also Peer Tutoring available through the Tutoring Office, 610-683-4207. Please do not hesitate to seek help when you need it!
In accordance with University policy, you are expected to attend all classes. Attendance will be taken at every class. In the event that your course grade falls on the borderline between two letter grades, I will use your attendance record to determine whether or not to assign the higher grade.
