I'm proud to be campus representative for the Geological Society of America. Learn more about this organization, whose mission statement reads: to be a leader in advancing the geosciences, enhancing the professional growth of its members, and promoting the geosciences in the service of humankind. You
may be interested in this geoscience calendar
of 2005 events (Earth Science Week
is October 9-15), or GSA's newsroom
which provides an overview of what's on the cutting edge in the field.
I've posted items below just for students, as
well as information about upcoming GSA events and
other GSA-sponsored programs. Just for Students Students who join GSA can access both Geology and the GSA Bulletin online at no cost. Students who are GSA members can also apply for travel grants and volunteer opportunities to offset the cost of attending regional and national meetings. GSA organizes fieldtrips that are only open to students (and cost less for members). Students can also apply to participate in mentoring programs developed by GSA, including the Roy J. Shlemon Mentor Program in Applied Geology, the John Mann Mentors in Applied Hydrology, and the Geology in Geovernment Mentor Program. Finally, student members can utilize the GSA web-based employment service. An annual student membership costs $30.
