to GEL/MAR 350/351 - Sedimentology

Photos of Our 2007 Sedimentology Fieldtrip
This
is an upper-level undergraduate course focused on sedimentary materials
and processes. The catalog description of this course reads: the basic
composition, transport, diagenesis and distribution of sediments are introduced
by means of lecture and labs. This year, we focus on sedimentary materials
and processes, and analysis of the sedimentary rock record. Several field
labs, and a weekend fieldtrip are required.
Class meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:00 - 11:50 AM in Grim 307.
Lab meets Thursdays from 2:00 - 4:50 PM in Boehm 126. The
course text is Principles of Sedimentology and Stratigraphy (Fourth
Edition) by Sam Boggs, Jr., published in 2006 by Prentice Hall. Final
grades incorprate results for the following: mid-term and final exams
(30%), a 12-page term paper (15%), a formal class presentation (5%), labs
(25%), paper discussions (10%), fieldtrips (5%), and in-class assignments,
class participation, and homework (10%).

Prerequisites for this course include GEL 100/101 (Physical Geology),
and either GEL 102/103 (Historical Geology) or GEL/MAR 366/367 (Marine
Geology), or my permisson.
