I currently have a number of different avenues of research that all relate, in some way, to the changing American family.  One line of research examines the meaning of fatherhood and the factors that influence father visitation and involvement; a related set of projects examine how multipartnered fertility (having children with multiple partners) influences paternal behaviors.  I also examine unintended fertility, studying union formation and fertility following an unintended birth and the contextual influences on unintended fertility.  Finally, I also study cohabitation, focusing on cohabitors’ initial and current expectations of the future of the relationship as well as the factors that influence cohabitation transitions and stability in an effort to understand where cohabitation fits in the relationship spectrum.
