Fiddle links

In all honesty, I am a pretty poor fiddle player.
I started when I was in college, but focused more on school than fiddling, so...
That said, though, as Henry Van Dyke said,
"Use the talents you possess - for the woods would be a very silent place if no birds sang except for the best."

Our local music shop
Meadowood Music - amazingly nice folks and great place to hang out (educational website)

An excellent violin shop
Murphy Violin Shop - this shop is owned by a couple of amazing violin players, one of whom was my teacher - great folks, too!

Fiddle sheet music sites

Laurie Griffiths music links - a fantastic hub for all sorts of resources

John Chambers' incredible international archive - he's got stuff from many different countries (from Albania and Armenia to Ukraine and Wales) in a searchable database.  Those MIT guys are pretty sharp, you know.

Morris tunes - a big collection of tunes from the English countryside (sorted by village!)

Richard Robinson's tunebook - another giant collection from all over the world.   He's over in the UK, so the server's a bit slow, but it's worth the wait, especially if you need gif format, but he's got ABC format, too.

Henrik Norbeck's Swedish Fiddle page - mostly Irish tunes, but some of other origins and some original compositions.

Tuneweb - Celtic music in GIF format (convenient if you don't want to bother with an ABC converter)

The Fiddler's Companion at Ceolas

Tunes at Ceolas - nice Celtic music archive plus many other types of resources, including descriptions/explanations of the instruments, styles, dances, artists, and even sound samples!

ABC2win software - a nice little program that converts the gibberish of ABC music notation into the gibberish of standard music notation with the option of playing the tune for you (in case you learned by ear) (mirror site)

Mudcat Cafe folk song database - this is an immense database of songs without sheet music, but they have guitar chords and midi links so you can hear the song, and if you want to learn something to sing when you don't have your violin with you, ...

Fiddle fork - place where you can exchange fiddle tunes

Hardanger Fiddle Association of America - this is the traditional fiddle style of Norway.  They play specialized fiddles, commonly in large groups

Magazine and record company sites
Green Linnet Record Co. - Recording label that puts out a lot of diddley-dee

Fiddler Magazine

Cranford Publications - Paul Cranford publications - resource for Cape-Breton, Irish and Scottish dance music
