Cut the Deck, High Card Wins

There are 52 cards in the standard deck.  We will look at 2 variations on this game with n players.  Simplify to n = 2.


Acey - Deucy

There are 52 cards in the standard deck.  We will look at 1 variation on this game with n players.  Simplify to n = 2.
Ace is highest card in the deck and Deuce is the lowest.  Thus your best chance to win is when your two up cards are Ace and Deuce.
  • Shuffle the deck of cards and everyone puts in the minimum wager to start the pot.
  • Repeat
    • Deal 2 cards face up and the 3rd face down to the player.
    • The player wagers some amount, from the minimum to the entire pot.
    • Turn the down card over.
    • If the down card lies between the 2 cards, by face value, the player wins and takes the wagered amount from the pot.
    • If the down card does not lie between the 2 cards, by face value, the player loses and puts the wagered amount from the pot.
  • With the next player, until the pot is empty, or you must go to attend one of your classes, or dinner, or . . .

We may study a simple part of this game.  Placing wagers on the COME or PASS LINE.

Black Jack

Blackjack table layout

We may study only one or two  very simple situation in this game, e.g.  everyone is given 2 cards and they all stand on what they have, i.e., no one draws.
If time permits, unlikely, we will study a basic strategy involving drawing cards and more complexity, including doubling down and splitting pairs.

Poker

Many variations of poker exist.  We may study the game of 5 Card Stud.
