Quinine as a Probe for Micelles
Below the critical micelle conc. (CMC) , quinine fluorescence increases as sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) is added.
Above CMC, quinine fluorescence is constant.
Quinine becomes protected from the Cl- quencher as it is embedded in the micelle.
Quinine fluorescence from within the micelle is lower in the presence of Cl-, indicating that quinine is not completely protected from Cl-.
The presence of salt forces the micelle to form at lower CMC.
