Exchanging Identities

the night sand is a scattered and wounded sea

and the ocean surf joyful eruptions of grains breaking the sand’s darkness

and evening is a triumphant ocean of swallowed lights,

the city an island struggling against fringes of dissipating glow

but the twilight sky is a metropolis of island-lamps on sedimentary sea,

and the rocks of the shore are mountains clinging upside down onto sky of sand

my feet are lost in your cloud-like mountains,

your head is taken up into my mountains of cloud
